Axial spondyloarthritis

Therapeutic options

Various therapeutic measures are available for relieving symptoms, preserving mobility, containing inflammation and stopping the increasing stiffness.

The following therapeutic approaches are usually possible:

Mobility therapy

Sufficient mobility and targeted exercise.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID)

Standard therapy, taking so-called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (painkillers), e.g. ibuprofen or diclofenac, to relieve pain and stiffness.

Biologics

Infusion or injection of biotechnologically manufactured medication (biologics) if the symptoms cannot be controlled via standard therapy with NSAID. These act on certain messenger substances of the immune system and thus intervene in the inflammatory process.
